COVID19 situation in The Gambia: New quarantine and testing guidance, The Health Minister has confirmed that the Gambia has registered two cases of the UK-Variant of COVID-19:

The Ministry of Health in a press release dated 5th of January 2021 informed the public that is has put in place new quarantine and testing guidance measures for passengers coming into the country:

– Sample taking and testing upon arrival, in addition to having a valid COVID-19 PCR test results of 72hrs ( hotspot countries with new strain of coronavirus, including Belgium, full list see hereunder)

– Mandatory quarantine at their own cost. Samples that are found positive upon their testing on arrival in The Gambia, will have the virus strain sequenced to confirm the genome.

All other travelers from countries not identified as hotspots for the new strain of COVID-19 must provide a valid negative PCR test to go on home isolation (Effective 9th January, 2021)

On the 14th of January 2021 the Government of The Gambia (GoTG) through the Ministry of Health informed the national assembly that the Gambia has registered two cases of the UK-Variant of COVID-19.

The Ministry also mentioned that there is a recent spike in cases and that this is a signal of a second wave of COVID19 cases in the country.
